Live on the edge, like living in a Zoo

Marking time with Moses: Well we have been on the move for almost a month and a half and now find ourselves mostly settled at the end of Tawny Lane in Amber Valley. While it is not exactly a desert, if we go for a walk and crest the hillside we live on, we can catch a glimpse of Protea Gardens, the promised land, on the other side of the valley. We are scheduled to be delivered into the promised land by the middle of the year. The current Pandemic may of course alter are carefully contrived planes.

Living on the edge, like living in a Zoo!: While the homes in Tawny Lane are not the only ones on the perimeter of the established dwellings in Amber Valley, they are adjacent to the most expansive part of the, "Game Area", that Amber Valley supports. As such it seems to us that we are encroaching of the area that is reserved for the Blesbok, Impala, Duiker, Oribi and possibly other ungulate species. They are also the most numerous. We also continuously have Zebras, Warthogs, and Guinea Fowl drifting pas the front and back doors. It certainly has been an interesting experience and also a most enjoyable one for me. For Edith it has bee wonderful, she as always been, and remains attached to all forms of life, and probably explains why she ended up with a PhD in Zoology.

So what about the people I hear you ask. Well we unfortunately landed here in the middle of a pandemic, and that would certainly have markedly influenced our initial experience. When we first arrived we were taken aback by the almost absolute stillness of the place. Also the extent to which the place actually seemed to be desserted. Living in the last home in the lane that faces onto the Game Area obviously does play a role in terms of that experience. Over time that has changed an we now see more folk out of doors simply walking, or walking the dog. We also see people walking along the paths through the Game Area. So perhaps it has not been a good time to experience living in Amber Valley, and in a sense I know that that is the case because we have friends and acquaintances who have settled here and also know that they have been very involved in terms of the various clubs and cultural and sporting activities that Amber Valley does support. Hopefully we will experience it first hand before we move on to the Promised Land.

Until then the dogs will continue to try and come to terms with all their new found acquaintances, and I will try to not be startled when I find a couple of Zebras seeking shade in the garage. Finally there have been some folk living here who have reached out to help us settle in and we are indebted to them. We are also specially indebted to our son, who has been staying in our partially sold home in Pietermaritzburg, also waiting to move on to his new home.
