During December 2021 Edith and I spent a very pleasant two weeks at Lemonwood Cottages (LWC) in the Dargle Valley. The Dargle Valley countryside is picturesque, and the surrounding hills include two treasures, one being two large patches of Mist Belt Forrest, and the other, the iNloshane Mountain at the far end of the valley. The latter is visible throughout most of the valley and is an impressive sight as one turns off the R103 onto the Dxxx heading into the Dargle Valley.
While we were staying at LWC we spent one day climbing iNhlosane, and another day climbing a hill near LWC in order to reach Yellowwood trees that were reputed to be magnificent specimens. Finally from YWCs we treated to a couple of wonderful sunsets, and I mention this as when we left, it was to spend a year at the end of Tawny Lane in the Ambers. From there we had a magnificent view of the Umgeni Valley in the direction of the Albert Falls Dam and some magnificent Sunrises.<\p>
Since arriving in the Dargle Valley 16 months ago we have done our time in the Ambers (6 months that the builders of our new home stretched to 12 months) and are finally settling down in our new home.
iNhlosane awaits - will we take in the view again?
PSForgot to mention the Orchid - If you have browsed through the photographs you will probably have noticed an Orchid posing for a photograph. It was spotted by Edith during a walk, and because she did not recognise it, she contacted Steve Johnson, a recognised Orchid expert at the Pietermaritzburg Campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
