If you have arrived at this page via my blog entitled, 'Nonsuch Road, and a walk that has become a journey!', then you will hopefully already have read the background to this page, and [possible that of the other pages that can be reached from that page. After having walked up and down Nonsuch Road almost every evening for more than ten years, I thought I should try and chronicle some of the experiences I have had while doing so. I guess I also felt that I needed to do so as it has been a great experience give or take a one or two altercations with speeding motorists.

If I had to describe what it is that has motivated me to put create these pages, and in doing so, to hopefully bring attention to Nonsuch Road and the surrounding area, it would be that it is a latent treasure that Msunduzi (Pietermaritzburg) really could make so much more of. It is now becoming an area renowned for Mountain Biking. It could also be for running, walking and general family recreation.

The area is clearly not utilised in this manner. Instead it is grossly neglected, and if I were to itemise what it is that concerns me, The would be a list.

Here is the list: 1) The chronic state of the immediate environment with respect to the invasion by alien vegetation. 2) The area is a case study in Cable theft in terms of the inconvenience, cost, and ultimately the extent to which resources are simply abandoned. 3) The extent to which the boundary fence of the Queen Elizabeth Park Nature Reserve is been neglected. This nature reserve is a real gem and even in its present state, always a pleasure to ride a bike through.

It is not all bad news! There are now several parties working in the area and tackling the alien invasion. In doing so they already have made a huge difference and hopefully their continued efforts will render the environment such that it becomes one that the local residents, and anyone else using Nonsuch Road, will not only enjoy, but celebrate.

Getting it to work on a device that has a touch-screen is a problem that I still have to solve.

Starred thumbnails have an accompanying comment that pops up and remains up, while the mouse pointer is over the thumb-nail.
