Roof Revival
High pressure clean. Repairs and enhancements to coping and valleys. Fascias and Barge Board repainted.

25-31 July 2019

For the third time (3rd) since building our home in Town Bush Road we are having the roof of our home cleaned. The first time it was done it was cleaned and painted. It had not been painted previously and I now believe that painting it was probably not a good idea. The fascias and the exterior walls were also repainted at that time. We also asked for the tiles lining the valleys to be secured such that they would not slip into the valleys. That was not done. What was done, was that the floor of the valleys was lined with fibre glass sheeting, something we did not ask for. The contractors were Roof-Rite and it was a thoroughly frustrating experience.

The second time we simply had the roof cleaned, no painting. The barge boards, fascias and window frames were also painted. Much simpler, and despite the go slow as the weekend approached, a bearable experience. Cannot remember who the contractor was.

The roof has now been cleaned for the third time. Once again it will not be painted. What will be done this time is work to repair several leaks that developed during the previous rainy season. This has involved repairs to the coping, lining the sides of the valleys with cement packed against the tilesin order to hold them in place, and painting the fascias and barge boareds. The work is being done by Fascias Painted and thus far it has been a great experience.

In order to repair the valleys, Fascias Painted had to remove Roof Rite's fibre glass sheeting. The photograph of a section of the fibre glass lining that appears below speaks for itself. It is as limp as a pair of under-pants that should have been tossed out ages ago.

Finally, all the contractors damaged the gutters by leaning their ladders against the gutters, some more than others. I simply cannot believe that a solution has not been found that allows for a ladder to be used to gain access to a roof in an area where there is a gutter, without leaning a ladder against the gutter. Oh, and there should be a law that prescribes that rooves with pitches that make working on them hazardous, have anchors positioned to allow safety ropes to be attached.)

Getting it to work on a device that has a touch-screen is a problem that I still have to solve.

Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy a bicycle.

What money has bought in this instance is a job well done, with everyone involved behaving in a thoroughly professional manner. Beyond that, Bernard said the paint used to repaint the repaired coping and valleys would match the colour of the roof, and it did.

If you have any comments, corrections, suggestions or plain criticism, I would appreciate it if you would communicate the same to me.
