As is often the case during winter, it was already quite dark by the time I went for a walk with the dogs along Non Such Road. After having crossed the stream, I looked back to see whether Angus was still with Wallace and myself. When walking the dogs, I often look back, because while Wallace is generally way out in front of me, Angus is usually behind me somewhere. In fact, when it is really dark, he is mostly right behind me, or if Mom is with me, still behind, but between us. I sometimes think he is scared of the dark.

Anyway, on this occasion I did not see him, but I did not stop because he is sometimes behind a bush or in the river. A little latter, I looked back and he still was not there. Not at all concerned, I carried on only to look back again later on. He still was not there. So I walked back, right back to the other side of the bridge. I still could not see him. So I turned around and carried on, crossing the bridge again for the third time. Shortly after crossing the bridge I thought I best look under the bridge.

At the time the river was flowing a lot stronger than it is in the photo and so it was only after I had peered into the pipe that I spotted him in the pipe. He was very wet and did not look very happy. If you look at the photo you will see a plank trapped across the pipe's opening. Because the river was flowing quite strongly, he could not jump over the plank and out of the pipe. So I had to lie down on the bridge and lean over the edge in order to try and reach him. I then tried to yank him out of the pipe by grabbing him by the scruff of his neck. The first time I tried, I lost my grip and he fell back into the pipe. The second time I tried I managed to hold onto him long enough to lift him out of the pipe and swing him over the edge of the bridge and back on the road.

As you can see from these photos, he seems to have forgotten about his scary experience in the pipe. This surprised me, as he still has not forgotten about the shock he got from the electric fence while walking along Non Such Road. That is another story and it will have to wait for another time.
