The last blog I wrote was on the 9th of January, when armed with my Walker, I was walking. Back then the Walker was certainly a crutch that I relied on. Now I can walk unaided, but the Walker is my back-stop, and hopefully it will be there if I trip up while walking and start to fall.

So when will I let it go?

Well it is complicated. As my nervous system has gradually recovered from the stroke, the nerve related problems that I had prior to the stroke, have reappeared. These were Peripheral Neurology in the soles of my feet, and lower back pain. Unfortunately the effect they have on my well being are now more marked than they were before the stroke, due to the muscle loss i have suffered.

So my guess is that I will not walk away from the Walker until I feel that I have regained my strength. Hopefully that will be sooner rather than later.

Could I abandon the walker for a pair of crutches. Yes, I have walked with crutches at my Physio Sessions. However, walking behind the walker requires less space, and it also allows me to cart stuff like a bottle of milk, or a bowl of cereal around the house.
