The Last Wobble
Before putting my feet on the pedals!

It is now almost ten months since I checked into hospital for a checkup. When I woke up I had had a Triple Heart ByPass and a Minor Stroke, and I had to start teaching the left hand side of my body how to move again.

Once I was able to walk with a walker, I made the recovery of my ability to walk unaided my priority. So it was wheel chair, walker, two crutches and finally one crutch. A the moment I can walk down the mostly level road we live in, and back using one crutch. I have reached a point where the crutch is primarily there to steady myself in the event of a wobble.

In our Unit I still use the walker, but again it is mostly there to catch a wobble. It is also very useful if I have to carry something around the Unit andI can hook it on the walker. I should also say that it allows me to walk faster than I would without it, and that is in a sense a problem. Not using it reduces the risk of a fall, AND it also allows me to get from A to B much faster.

It is now almost ten months since I last rode my bicycle. In fact I no longer have the bicycle I had then. It weighed 34 kilograms with the extra battery fitted and it no longer suited my situation. SO! I have new eBike, I have already shown that I can get my right leg over the frame and sit on the saddle. I have also scooted up and down our road JD Bug style () and now need to change the saddle and get my feet on the pedals.

Well with Edith's help and a Mug of Tea, Edith and I replaced the very wide saddle Hattons had fitted, and that had also been damaged in a "Over the Handle Bars fall*quot; that Bruce unfortunately had while he had the Bicycle down in Pietermaritzburg in order for Hattons to sort out the Dropper Past and fit a saddle that I would be comfortable sitting on. He basically hit a ditch that stretched the width of Langalibalele Street opposite the UNISA Buildings.

With the new saddle fitted I did some more JD Bug style scooting. No pedaling. Perhaps tomorrow.

Fitted the rear light to the base of the seat post (frame). Also fitted the amazing bell that I bought for fun in Perth WA years ago. Did not get my feet on the pedals.

7 August

After our afternoon tea Edith gusseted that I scoot (JD Bug) my bike up and down our road. I agreed and once on the bike I put my left foot on the pedal with it position for take-off and pushed. I was riding a bike again without Pedal-Assist after a break of ten months. I did several laps of our road and then called it quits. I will probably have another ride tomorrow. If I do, I will include the road on the opposite side of main complex access road. I will also turn on Pedal-Assist :-))
